By September, San Antonio will connect with over an acre of fitness. Fitness Connection, a national brand of low-cost gyms, is preparing to open its first Alamo City location at South Park Mall. Membership support agents tell MySA that the gym does not have a set opening date yet but is planning for late September.
The gym’s monthly memberships are priced at $10 a month. The agent says enrollment fees can range from $39 to $79, but the charge is being waved in celebration of the Southside opening. From now until Fitness Connection opens its doors, San Antonians can join for free.
Members will not be charged the monthly fee until the gym opens. Fitness Connection does charge a $49 annual fee.
For $10 a month, gym-goers will have access to 73,000 square-feet of activities. The gym will be split up into class areas, a spacious workout area for cardio and weight training, a section reserved for women, a basketball court, functional training, a kid’s club, and cycling studio.
The new gym joins other brands in the area like Planet Fitness, which operates a 13,000-square-foot location across the street from South Park Mall, and Tru Fit, which recently opened at the former Gold’s Gym space off Southwest Military Drive and offers 40,000 square feet. Tru Fit and Planet Fitness also have locations further east on Military Drive.
With Fitness Connection’s opening, the heart of the Southside, a historically overlooked area of the city, will have three gyms on Southwest Military Drive, an artery for the neighborhood.
The Houston-based Fitness Connection replaces South Park Mall’s Sears location, which closed in February 2020. EVO, a Texas brand of entertainment centers, is also opening at the property. The cinema-entertainment business plans to open in December.
